Pity the Fool - Hanes Mr T Double Tough Socks

Photographer Stasia Droze was hired to shoot Mr. T for a Hanes Double Tough Socks print campaign. She had shot Michael Jordan for another Hanes campaign a few years earlier. This time the ad agency needed a very quick turn around and requested it be shot digitally. Stasia was new to digital but she was a long time customer of Photo Impact lab and was aware of the services that Image Mechanics offered to lab customers. She dropped by our studio to get a feel for the Hasselblad H1 camera with the Leaf back. We showed her our capture system and walked her through the process. She left feeling confident in our ability to handle the technology for her.

The shoot took place on Friday at 5th and Sunset Studios and the finished art was due at the printer Monday back in North Carolina. Because of this, the agency asked for a second computer workstation to edit and retouch in real time during the shoot. We provided them with a loaded G5 and a 23″ LCD monitor as well as a second tech to help process the images and to handle any problems that might come up.

Mr. T was a blast. He kept his co-star, a small child, entertained the whole shoot. Every time the kid started to get worked up or upset, Mr. T told him to “drop and give me 20″ (I wish we had video). He was a lot of fun to have around and a genuinely nice guy. After the shoot he autographed Hanes socks and posed for pictures with each and every crew member.

The agency chose the images and we loaded them to our web server before we packed up at the studio. The technicians building the ad back in North Carolina were able to download the images while the creatives were en route back to the agency. Everybody was happy including Stasia, the photographer, who is now totally confident using Image Mechanics to shoot digital.
