Photo Plus Expo wrap up
Thanks to everyone that attended the archiving and workflow seminars at Photo Plus Expo in New York last week. Image Mechanics has been slammed for the last couple of weeks and I am way behind in posting to the blog. Thank you all for your patience.
The links for the topics covered in the seminar are after the jump.
The external hard drive enclosures I spoke about are from FirmTek.
We often buy our bare hard drives at ZipZoomFly.com. Make sure any hard drive you use as a professional photographer is intended for the server market. Most consumer drives have a 1 year warranty. I wouldn’t recommend buying any hard drive that doesn’t come with a 3-5 year warranty. Seagate Barracudda is a brand we like and the people at FirmTek recommend Hitachi for drives larger than 500GB with their enclosures.
The links to the references I made to proprietary software gone wrong are:

Robot Parking Fiasco story from Wired News

Here is a link to the article about the silver firewire cables with a built in repeater.
Zettabyte is the company that makes the hard drives that back up over the internet. We are currently testing this drive so look for a review in the near future.
Trusted Data is the company making RAID boxes for the photo market with a simplified set up so that users don’t have to know anything about RAID. They aren’t shipping yet but keep an eye on their site and our blog for a review and a chance at getting a review unit.
